A List of Recent Events
So I’ve been busy in a sense recently with random things going on. It’s been pretty interesting to say the least. I figured I would just go ahead and make my website a blog, as I’m probably not going to actively use it for anything else otherwise.
I oddly enough never knew I was considered a Senior at the University of Houston, but it certainly explains why they have been trying to push me to finish up the credits I needed so I could work on courses related to a major. I only needed six credits and minimum B average, and the courses were really easy, so that was a piece of cake. I immediately sent a request to declare a major in Management Information Systems, and it was accepted about a week afterwards. The counselor(s) are available for walk-ins on Mondays and Tuesday from 9-11am so I will probably have to wait until July to see what I should take next unless I set up an appointment.
Earlier in the year (Late January), I had my credit card information stolen and some fraudulent charges made. I was really quick to notice it though before any damage could be done and had the charges reversed. It was a horrible way to start off 2010, but the act did make me change all of my passwords and think more actively about security.
I also discovered about a month ago I had about two or three viruses that were pretty deep rooted in my Windows installation on my laptop. Only one was really malicious, the others just ran a bunch of processes to make the system slow and possibly overheat. I was getting irritated by Windows anyway so I axed it in favor of a linux distro — Ubuntu to be exact — and I do not regret my decision.
No real new gaming has been going on. I did hop on the World of Warcraft train near the end of 2009, and I do actually play every now and then, mostly just waiting for Cataclysm to see how the changes will ruin my characters. I also play League of Legends once in a while. I really try to avoid playing that game too much since it can be pretty stress and rage inducing at times. I have Persona 3 Portable and Deathsmiles Limited Edition preordered, they should come out in July.
I have been keeping up with anime and manga, but haven’t really been out to purchase domestic titles. No shelf space anywhere to store them. I also want to get more figmas and nendoroids but no shelf space for those either, plus I’m pretty picky about which ones I’d buy. Maybe I’ll find something interesting though and buy it! Who knows.

35 hours and 37 minutes later (in-game time, real life time is probably about 60 or so) after having done pretty much everything there was to do:
- Obtained all 32 treasures
- Created all 50 recipes (Alec said there were no more despite there being two blank spots on the last page)
- Acquired all 4 pets
- Mapped out the entire world of Aquaria
- Found the 3 special things that are really special
I finally beat the game. I will admit in the beginning the game started out a bit shaky. Little fish girl is tired of swimming in her lovely home and wants to go exploring elsewhere.
However, once you leave the calm comfort of Home Waters and reach the Open Waters, things start to pick up a little. The story hits on two themes throughout the entire game, and these two specific themes will probably manage to affect the player’s emotions and compel them to play longer than they might intend.
The music in this game is amazing. I really, really love what they did with a particular verse. The boss music is very suitable too, it puts one in the mood to not only actually fight but to finish it as well. The pace of the boss fight theme actually goes with the pace you will be scampering about and dodging like a madman. The voices were great, and it’s kind of neat that the developers managed to do a little voice work for things here and there. Jenna Sharpe (who does the voice of Naija) really manages to bring out the character well. I honestly could not tell that this was her first real gig doing voice work. There were a few moments where the voice was overshadowed by the music, but overall it was very nice.
I know it will be done eventually, but I’m just glad no one ever did a walk through while I was going through the game. For me it really added to the experience, since I was just as confused and dumbfounded as Naija at times.
Honestly. The fact that two guys could create something of this caliber is breathtaking. I’m saddened that the bigger companies out there can’t even come close to matching what these two men (and one woman) accomplished in only a two year period.
All I really need is a soundtrack for this game.
I’m not one to go out and say “buy this game now”, but if you are looking for an enjoyable adventure game and have $30 to spend go right ahead and buy it like I did. It is worth every dollar.
